The past few months have been a reminder of the racial injustices in our nation. The deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, and the treatment of Christian Cooper, are just a few examples of a long and tragic history of racial bias and oppression in America, and unless we collectively confront the issue of systemic racism, these horrific events are doomed to continue.
At S2G Ventures, we have a responsibility to use our role as investors to do better. Today, we are making contributions to organizations on the front lines fighting tirelessly for social justice across the country. NAACP Empowerment Programs, Equal Justice Initiative and The Advancement Project are organizations focused on empowerment and equality — we are proud to highlight and support their work. This alone is not enough. We must shine a light on ourselves and acknowledge we can and must do better. We must start with listening, reflecting, and re-evaluating our own investment and recruiting policies and work harder to cultivate a more inclusive network. Individual empowerment is core to our belief and we will also be extending 2:1 matching opportunities to all team members to embrace activism and engagement. The conversation on equality does not stop here — we will continue to look for ways to create better outcomes for all people and the planet.
