A virtual conversation with Kate Danaher and Larsen Mettler about exciting technologies, their vision for our Oceans and Seafood fund and advice for entrepreneurs.

S2G launched our oceans and seafood strategy last August to support entrepreneurs who are developing scalable solutions to the challenges that threaten the health of our oceans and ultimately people and our planet. Following an initial conversation introducing our new Managing Directors, Kate Danaher and Larsen Mettler, we regrouped to talk more about innovations they are excited about investing in, the outcomes they are aiming for and advice for entrepreneurs bringing new solutions to market. Here are some excerpts from our conversation.

Since you both joined S2G, you've been talking with entrepreneurs, investors, and potential strategic partners to formulate your thesis. What are some of the solutions that you're most excited about investing in?

One of the narratives that we are most excited about is the concept of IOT and data and its ability to tell a story about our oceans and our supply chains that we've previously just not had insights into.

- Kate Danaher, S2G Oceans Managing Director

As you start to see some of these innovative technologies come to market and begin to have an impact on the system, what is your vision for the next 10 years? Where do you think we can get with respect to making improvements in the health of our ocean and the production of seafood more sustainably?

We're really setting this up for substantial shifts that are over 30 years. That includes looking at ocean climate solutions that are beneficial to the ecosystem, but have additional benefits across platforms.

- Larsen Mettler, S2G Oceans Managing Director

Can you share with our entrepreneurs that might be listening any advice for them on bringing new solutions to market during this time of turbulence.

One of the pieces of advice that I give entrepreneurs is in your early days is to find your north star. How you get there will change at least fifty times before you actually get there. But if you can articulate early on what you are trying to accomplish, then every decision you make along the way can be reinforced by the vision you have.

- Kate Danaher, S2G Oceans Managing Director
