Senior Communications Associate

The Role
We are looking for a highly-motivated and talented individual to join one of the leading investment firms in the impact investing industry. S2G Ventures is looking for a Senior Associate, Communications to play a key role in our venture capital fund. Within S2G Ventures, Marketing and Communications is part of the Platform Team, serving as S2G Ventures’ growth engine.
There are countless high-value stories at S2G, from the revolutionary solutions being created by portfolio companies, thought leadership reports placing the firm as a leader in climate venture capital, and the many ways that S2G is advancing the mission of investing in a healthy and humane planet. This Sr. Associate will extract value from these stories to build momentum and trust around S2G and its portfolio companies by ensuring our successes are heard loud and clear in the marketplace. This role will engage our strategic audiences with clear brand messaging, compelling communications and earned media. The Sr. Associate will report to the Managing Director, Marketing and will have the opportunity to work closely with senior members of the firm, ecosystem partners and external advisors.
Desired Experience and Skills
Investor Communications
Collaborate with Investor Relations and investment team to prepare targeted content and communications that will resonate with a wide range of investors and help to catalyze more capital into our impact areas and portfolio companies.
Internal Communications
Collaborate with Head of People to develop and execute a calendar of internal communications to build culture and awareness of firm happenings amongst S2G’s growing team
Collaborate with Builders Vision communications team to share stories and news across the broader organization
Educate S2G team on firm narrative, talking points as it relates to key themes and announcements
Brand Narrative
In partnership with Managing Director, Marketing, cultivate a clear and compelling messaging hierarchy for S2G that clearly articulates the firm’s unique value proposition
Develop a deep understanding of S2G’s core audiences and nuanced messaging points for target audiences
Collaborate with Sector-focused Managing Directors to crisply articulate fund-level objectives and investment thesis
Media Relations
Create press strategy with Managing Director, Marketing aligned with S2G’s overall business goals and objectives and execute to best position S2G to target audiences
Collaborate with S2G leadership and broader team to prioritize themes, develop talking points, and coordinate schedules and availability for media opportunities
Manage public relations agency to ensure effective project timelines, sharp messaging, and S2G-quality deliverables.
Vet and respond to media opportunities
Develop and nurture relationships with journalists covering S2G’s core areas of focus
Conduct prep sessions with S2G team members prior to media interviews or speaking engagements
Develop crisis communications plan
Portfolio Communications and Consulting
Serve as a top-tier communications resource for S2G’s portfolio companies. This includes, but is not limited to, executing launch and announcement strategies, identifying and speaking to target audiences, media training executives, pitching, crisis communications, and road-map building.
Develop value-added communications to our portfolio company leadership team in support of broader platform value-generation activities. Think creatively about the best formats and platforms to share insights with our portfolio companies and execute across channels.
Support the platform team
Support the platform team on events, development of trend reports, and other projects.
Qualifications
Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, related field, or equivalent job experience
5 + years of experience in communications and public relations at a climate-tech start-up or financial services or comparable experience set
Exceptional writer, communicator, and listener with excellent relationship skills
Intellectual curiosity, desire to learn, ability to take initiative
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and process
Self-starter with a track record of going above and beyond what is asked
Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
Strong analytical abilities and ability to grasp new concepts quickly
An ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, partners and entrepreneurs
Experience with Salesforce, MailChimp, and Cision, a plus.
You will report to the Managing Director, Marketing of S2G Ventures. This is a salaried position working out of our Chicago office.
