The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join one of the leading private investment firms committed to sustainability and climate action. S2G Ventures is looking for a Principal to play a key role in our newly formed fund focused on climate-oriented credit, infrastructure, and special situations investing. As a lead member of the investment team, this individual will help set strategy for the Special Opportunities fund and lead investment sourcing and underwriting across sectors. As a Principal on the team, you will co-lead the fund alongside other senior professionals, and co-manage the Special Opportunities investment team, investment process, and portfolio management. Principals have the opportunity to work closely with senior members of the firm and have extensive interaction with company management teams, boards, and external advisors.

This Principal role will help lead the efforts of S2G’s Special Opportunities Fund, a $300 million commitment to infrastructure, project finance, credit, and other structured capital solutions across S2G’s themes including food and agriculture, clean energy, and oceans and seafood. The Special Opportunities team works closely with other S2G funds to identify and scale portfolio companies. The Principal role will also support in portfolio management of historical real asset investments spanning organic agriculture, sustainable water, renewable energy development, and controlled environment agriculture. This individual will have the unique opportunity to join a fund in its formative days and influence the long-term trajectory of the fund while benefiting from the infrastructure and expertise of the S2G platform.

S2G is looking for a senior professional who is looking to grow with the firm as it deploys its first of what could be multiple vintages of the Special Opportunities Fund. Principals are responsible for leading the due diligence and research efforts of a deal team and will work with portfolio company executives (CEOs, COOs, etc.) to employ S2G’s investment and operating model to drive investor returns and impact.

Desired Experience and Skills

Key Responsibilities

The position is designed for an individual who has strong experience and knowledge of asset-based investing, project finance, credit, and/or broader structured solutions within the climate arena. Responsibilities will revolve around three primary types of work:

  • Strategy & Team Development – The Principal role is responsible for co-leading strategy development of the special opportunities fund, improving and honing it to ensure appropriate investment targets, portfolio construction, and risk parameters are in place. This individual will also be responsible for supporting team management and build out as further capital is deployed and the organization scales. The candidate must have experience managing deal teams and junior investment professionals throughout the investment process.

  • New Investments – Principals are responsible for using their network to source investment opportunities and lead deal teams in evaluating investment opportunities, researching industry dynamics, and heading the legal closing and deal execution process. Candidate needs to have experience in leading direct transactions throughout real assets, credit or other structured finance asset classes and is proficient in financial modeling and legal due diligence, ideally with credit or project finance experience.

  • Portfolio Management & Company Building – Principals play an important role in company building and portfolio management after investments close. Principals oversee Special Opportunities fund LP reporting, individual company reporting, and investment operations. Ideal candidate will have experience sitting on company boards and supporting management teams with fundraising and strategic decisions.


  • S2G as an organization is focused first on culture – how you engage is as important as the skills that you bring to the role

  • Strong analytical and financial abilities with a direct investment background in asset-based financing and/or special situations

  • Approximately 12+ years of experience with exposure to investing, for instance, energy investment firm, special situations, project finance, commercial credit/lending or venture debt

  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and proven ability to learn new concepts and industries quickly

  • An ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, partners and entrepreneurs, particularly through experience as a board member and manager of other investment professionals
